Associate professor at the School of Aesthetics and Communication, Aarhus University

Applications are invited for the position of associate professor at the School of Aesthetics and Communication, with particular focus on the interplay between new media and/or the interplay between new and traditional media.

This is a permanent position, and the appointment begins on 1 August 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position : The Department of Media Studies is seeking an innovative and dedicated candidate who will contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities within research, teaching, talent development and knowledge exchange at the highest international level.

In terms of research, the focus is on theoretical and methodological developments in relation to the interplay between new media and/or the interplay between new and traditional media within an increasingly digital and competitive media landscape.

Applicants must be able to document research on how the interplay between media is manifested in patterns of media usage and/or media production and/or at the institutional level.

Teaching : The successful applicant is expected to take part in existing research activities at the School of Aesthetics and Communication, as well as teaching one or more subjects on the BA degree programme in media studies and/or one of the Master’s degree programmes in journalism or media studies (see the academic regulations). Applicants are asked to indicate which courses at the School of Aesthetics and Communication they would be able to teach.

Talent development : The associate professor is expected to contribute to talent development within the fields of media studies. He/she will be expected to supervise PhD students as well as teaching and developing PhD courses.

Knowledge exchange : The successful applicant will be expected to exchange knowledge with various sectors of society outside the university, and to contribute actively to the general public debate in areas related to the position.

Qualifications : Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in media studies or another relevant field as well as research and teaching qualifications equivalent to those acquired in an assistant professorship.

The position requires • a relevant international research profile • teaching experience (please provide documentation) • the ability to expand the academic profile of media studies at the School of Aesthetics and Communication • experience of or interest in cross-disciplinary research and education • interest in and preferably experience of knowledge exchange activities

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute actively to the school’s academic environment through activities including • developing new research projects and expanding the department’s research network • applying for external research grants (which presupposes an interest in and preferably experience of grant applications) • participating in teaching development activities and forums

If the successful applicant is not fluent in Danish, he or she will be expected to learn Danish within a period of approximately two years. Appropriate support will be given for this purpose
