Social media and the controversial development of situated knowledge about transidentities

This article examines the way in which the tools provided by the internet, and in particular social media, allow trans persons to create educational virtual communities. The goal of these communities is to reshape the production and circulation of knowledge about the technical aspects of transitioning and the definitions of gender identities. This process is analysed from an historical point of view, illustrating the simultaneous evolution of online platforms and the political concepts developed within the trans activist movement.
