In 50 years, French television news have produced three understandings of neonaticides: first seen as forms of late abortion, shocking but understandable, they start to become perceived as wrongful actions in need of – a disrupted – repression from the mid-1980s; about 2005, they are shown as crimes only committed by women, resulting of an unspeakable suffering. The 2006-2016 period also revealed the birth and the disappearing of a criminal figure, highlighting interrogations surrounding motherhood: the “good neonaticide mothers”.
