Funerals and Collective disasters on TV
Le Temps des médias n°17, Automne 2011.Collective disasters have been systematically mediatized by television since its origins. Based on an analysis of television news announcing earthquakes and major accidents since 1972, this paper explores how religion is used by journalists and the production of « secular religiosities » : the role of science, the emergence of “extraordinary personalities”, increasing involvement and commitment of political actors.
