Des Éditions de Minuit à Youtube, Le Silence de la mer

Le Temps des médias n°14, Printemps 2010, p. 158-175.

From its clandestine publication in 1942 occupied France to a Youtube video, Vercors short story The Silence of the Sea has seen many adaptations – into feature film, TV movies and video clips. Beyond the adaptation into screenplays and the various degrees to which images are faithful to the text, the original meaning of the story owes its metamorphosis to the context of viewer responses and the attached production constraints for each new version. This paper looks into media and political contexts at play, and their role in the shaping of the successive representations of a same theme. DrapeauFrancais
